I think Seth Godin would agree that Jake Shimabukuro is the best in the world at what he does. Jake is a Ukulele Virtuoso. Once you hear him play, you’ll get the picture as to why he is worth talking about.
I learned of Jake this morning while listening to The Bob & Tom Show on the way from dropping Kaden off at daycare. Bob & Tom have one of the top nationally syndicated morning talk radio shows around today, and this morning, they introduced Jake to literally millions of people.
But, this is the video on YouTube that really launched Jake’s career as a musician. He admitted it himself during the interview, after playing this amazing George Harrison piece you will listen to below. Watch to the end. It’s a pretty incredible jam.
Jake is also uses Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, iLike, a personal blog site, and other social media tools that help make his music and brand story visible to audiences around the world. Jake has built a Total Internet Presence, and it seems to be working pretty well.
Obviously, two of Jake’s objectives are to promote his tour and sell CD’s. This morning’s radio performance and interview grabbed my attention, but the challenge with traditional media like radio and television has always been getting people to take action. In reality, by the time I was done with my coffee meeting and headed into the office, I would have forgotten the entire experience of listening to Jake play and moved on with my day.
But Jake uses the concept of TIP.
All I had to do was Google “Jake Uklele” and I immediately found him on the web. Within minutes, I knew tons of information about Jake, and I’ve given him permission to send me more content as it develops. I’ll remember Jake, and when the time is right for me (the consumer), I will buy a CD.
One more thing to consider. It was exposure on YouTube (to the tune of 3,539,246 viewers) that helped Jake get enough attention to launch a national tour which, in turn landed him on national radio with Bob & Tom and their millions of viewers.
