Love DadBeing a engaged dad and a engaged professional can be a challenge.  My friend Chris knows this and blogs about it here.

About a year ago, following the merger between Young Isaac and People To My Site, I went on a business development meeting with Artie Isaac and my friend Steve White.  While we waited in the prospects conference room, we chatted about being dads.

I will never forget the advice Artie gave Steve and I.  It came from his experience and his heart. His words have helped to guide me through the times where I’ve felt like I was falling short at home.  I share them with you now in hopes that they will help to guide you like they did me.

Artie said two very important things.  It’s been a while so I’m not sure if these were his exact words, but they were his ideas:

“When you first get home, find your children and go join them in whatever it is they are doing. Don’t make them come to you.  The mail will wait.  The first minutes when you get home from work are the most important to them.”

“I always make sure to let them see me smooch with their mom.  I want them to see our relationship and our love for each other.  This is the BEST example that a dad can set for their children.”

As parents, we need to lead our children by example.  Artie is a busy professional and has always had tons on his plate, yet he has made a conscious effort to practice this mantra daily.

What do you practice daily to stay centered and focused on what’s most important to you?
